Give me a ticket or an aeroplane... the words from this song sums me up!
I love to travel.
I love the whole process of booking a trip. I'm in my element. Like a kid in the candy store. In fact, I'd go as far as saying that I am Brilliant at it.
Planning events and trips are definitely my 'forte'.
I have to thank my parents for exposing me to travel and trip organising at a young age. They used to run Public Houses, or better known as the great British Pub. They had a 'knack' of taking over a run-down 'Pub' and build it up quickly to become the 'In Pub' of the area.
They were extremely innovative. I can't claim that my mum was the first to invent Great Pub Food, but she was undoubtedly an early pioneer. At all of the Pubs, they managed, their success was due to creating for their regular customers a great community feeling with lots of events, happenings, and experiences.
They even introduced group travel, which became the highlight of the year when 70+ people got the opportunity to go on their first 'holidays abroad'- not the 'norm' back in the mid 70's.
I remember the excitement of packing my new clothes for those trips, and then the whole airport experience for my first flights to Spain - Benidorm, Majorca and Ibiza.
That's why I still get a huge thrill when flying. Only when I have my boarding card and passport in hand, do I feel like I'm going anywhere. My husband, on the other hand, loves to drive; give him miles of open road, or mountains to 'jeep' through. Luckily I love TRAVEL, however, it is served.
One of the reasons we got into the wine business was to travel. The prospect of visiting all those wine regions to visit, explore and learn.
Well, as truth had it that we did comparatively very little travelling in all the years, we had our winery and vineyards. We were too busy.
After closing down our business, I vouched that whatever new thing I would do in my life would have to have the element of travel on a regular basis.
At the beginning of my new Coaching business, I found myself hopping off to the United States, twice within a couple of months to attend a Private Mastermind Retreat with my Business Coach and a group of influential and amazing women entrepreneurs.
It was four full days of coaching, training, and masterminding. It was also huge FUN! We laughed a lot; we even cried some, we shared experiences, tried some excellent restaurants, learned from each other and left feeling a whole lot lighter. I absolutely love these retreats and the powerful breakthroughs that take place for all involved.
Even a short break away does wonders for you.
It turns out that travel is far more than exotic locations, amazing sunsets, delicious foods, breathtaking scenery, it also has the most amazing effects on your brain according to a recent article by Amy Daly on Buzz Feed Life 13 Amazing Things Travel Does To Your Brain
They state that there are 13 reasons to travel.
1. It boosts your creativity.
2. It makes you more trusting.
3. It makes you a better problem-solver.
4. And more humble, too.
5. It makes you more open to new things
6. It makes you sharper.
7. It can help you reinvent yourself.
8. It makes you less fearful of things.
9. It makes you happier.
10. It makes you kill it at work.
11. It makes you more patient.
12. It can help you get over a loss
13. It just makes you feel more aliiiiive!!!!
I think I'd tick most points, especially #9 & #13 and know the buzz and kick I feel during and after travel.
The most valid point for me is No.7 - Travel can help you reinvent yourself.
And the best part is, it works. “Taking a break from business, as usual, enables us to pause, contemplate our lives, and potentially re-route the path we are taking on our journey,” says environmental and design psychologist Toby Israel, Ph.D., author of Some Place Like Home, tells BuzzFeed Life. He goes on to say that “Traveling helps us look at our lives from a distance — both physically and metaphorically. And when you do that, you’re able to see it a lot more clearly.”
I agree wholeheartedly and is one of the reasons I offer Retreat Experiences for my clients, where they can take themselves away from their everyday mundane, to get clear on where they are and where they want to go.
I believe significantly about the benefits of changing your environment. And why I am offering a series of workshops and retreats on the Magical Greek island of Kefalonia, Summer 2018.
In the meantime, if you'd like to know more about the workshops and retreats program starting in May, drop us your name and email in the box below, and we'll be in touch.
